One of the strongest men in Oxford County is retiring from bodybuilding at the top of his game.
WOODSTOCK - If you see Patrick Hovorka at the gym, you will most likely be impressed.
The Bodybuilder from Woodstock is calling it a career after achieving his ultimate goal. Last year Hovorka won captured all three pro cards after winning the IDFA Universe competition. Hovorka won 1st place in the Masters division and 1st place in the Open Men's overall winner at his most recent competition in Mississauga. He says it was a remarkable finish to his career.
"I came in probably in the best condition that I have ever had in my entire career, so I ended it on on a great note and professionally as well because I did attain what I set out to do."
Hovorka's day job is the Director of Community Services in Norwich Township and he still finds time to workout 5 days a week.
"They are only about an hour session at a time. I am fortunate to have my own gym at home, so that is a huge time saver, I can get in and get out in about an hour. I think the five day split is something I will always maintain. It is not a huge commitment when you really take a look at it. In my mind if you can't spare an hour a day every second day for yourself than you are not really giving yourself a fair shake."
Hovorka plans to stay in body building shape, because it is his lifestyle and he still loves the sport. A lot goes into his preparation for every contest. Hovorka says he does have to eat a lot of calories to stay in bodybuilding shape.
"For my particular bodyweight , I consume around 2500 to maintain and add at least 500 more a day during of season. You want to keep yourself on the plus side when trying to put muscle on of course and then dip below the 2500 level when I want to lose body fat. Eating 4-5 meals a day never really changes throughout the year."
Hovorka says he has plans to help train a few friends looking to get into bodybuilding and wouldn't completely rule out a return to the sport that he obviously still loves
