Zorra Township Bans Pushing Snow Onto the Road

Those who clear their driveways along the roadside will receive a $105 fine

ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Those who push their snow onto the road in Zorra Township this winter better be prepared to pay up.

Director of Public Works for Zorra Township Aden Corcoron explains why it is dangerous to blow snow near the roadways.  "Putting snow on a road can result in a safety issue for the travelling public.  Snow can freeze on the road, cause ruts, bumps, and before we get a chance to clear it can also cause snow to drift across the road also creating an unsafe situation.  It is typically piled on the west and north sides of roads it becomes a snow fence and collects snow."

Once the snow start flying this winter in Zorra Township will need to find alternate areas to dump the white stuff, and Corcoron spoke to Heart FM on if this is a problem and what the fine is for disobeying the by-law.  "We have been giving warnings and we do have a fine for this of $105.  It is not new it has been apart of our by-law for 20 plus years, and it has been a problem in the past.  We try to educate people on the potential of accidents or incidents from snow clearing on the road."

Corcoron hopes everyone will drive safe and feels this mainly applies to rural residents.  "After the first warning there is a fine, we do clean sidewalks in Embro and Thamesford.  Drive safely and drive to the conditions of the road."
