The War Amps are commemorating their 100th anniversary with the release of a special collector's edition envelope.
The War Amps are celebrating their 100th anniversary.
The War Amps is an organization that consists of amputees helping other amputees. Here's a list of the ways they have helped improve their quality of life;
- Provide financial assistance to amputees for their artificial limbs.
- Educate amputees with information on artificial limbs and all aspects of living with amputation.
- Encourage child amputees to develop a positive approach to amputation through comprehensive programs including tools for future independence.
- Assist war amputees and seriously disabled veterans.
- Advocate for the rights and interests of all amputees.
- Employ amputees and others with disabilities at the Key Tag Service sheltered workshop and throughout the Association.
- Serve the public through the Key Tag Service, PLAYSAFE and DRIVESAFE programs and Operation Legacy initiatives.
Public Awareness Officer Jamie Lunn shares about experience with the War Amps.
"I myself am an amputee; I grew up in the War Amps Child Amputee program. They've helped me fund my artificial limbs and also my emotional support throughout the years as well and that's something that they do for amputees across Canada."
Lunn adds the War Amps have always been by her side.
"Throughout my life the War Amps has really been there to help with my confidence and also just help me with just really simple things. I was able to learn how to tie my shoes and put up my hair, just simple things like that. But even further than just myself, it helped my family."
Lunn says the War Amps have something special planned for their big anniversary.
"In partnership with Canada Post we released a commemorative envelope. It's a collector's edition envelope that you can pick up at any Canada Post. This envelope depicts many of our photos and many milestones we would like to celebrate over the last 100 years."
