The Health Unit is going to start offering 4th doses to long term care home residents.
Southwestern Public Health Region continues to see outbreaks at local long term care homes.
Right now, 18 out of 34 local long term care homes and retirement homes are in outbreak. Alexandra Hospital Ingersoll continues to be in outbreak as well, along with the hospital in St. Thomas.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says people are working around the clock to keep people safe.
"I do want to stop and recognize our partners in these settings, who are working tirelessly to keep our most vulnerable residents safe. Southwestern Public Health will be aiding in their efforts by offering 4th doses to the residents in these settings between now and the end of January."
Locally, we have 48 people with COVID-19 in local hospitals, including 8 in the ICU. Dr. Lock says this is a big jump.
"Due to some issues around timing and data reporting, we have been under reporting hospitalizations recently. This number I give that I give to you today is in face, the correct number of hospitalizations."
