Out of date vaccination records will keep around 180 students in Oxford County out of class.
A number of kids in Oxford County are staying home from school today because they are not caught up to date on their vaccinations.
The deadline to submit your vaccination forms for elementary students this year was by the end of the day yesterday. As of noon Wednesday, 180 kids from Oxford County had not submitted their paperwork. Program Supervisor in Health Protection with Oxford Public Health Joanne Andrews says those kids have been suspended.
"So if we don't have a record the student will be suspended and the student can return to school as soon as we have that up to date record."
Andrews says every child in Ontario must be caught up with their vaccinations in order to attend school.
"So according to the Immunizations of School Pupils Act, students need to be immunized according to an immunization schedule and be up to date with certain immunizations at certain ages. Parents do have a choice to not immunize and if they make that choice they do have to provide a sworn affidavit explaining why they are not vaccinating their children."
