The 5K Superhero and Fun Run will takeover the Thamesford Rec Centre on Sunday May 21st in support of the Children's Health Foundation in London.
OXFORD COUNTY - A mother and son duo are getting ready to lace up the runners for a cause close to their hearts.
The 5K Superhero and Fun Run will be hosted in support of the Children's Health Foundation, with proceeds going towards health and awareness at the hospital.
Organizer Sheila Weir says her family has been fundraising for 15 years and explains why the cause is special to her family.
“My daughter Shaye was born at 25 weeks, and she was only with us for 6-weeks. We still consider ourselves very lucky because a lot of parents don’t even get the 6-weeks with their babies.”
Weir adds that they encourage everyone to dress in superhero attire and reminds everyone that superheroes don’t just exist in the movies.
“Our tagline is ‘dress like your superhero from real life to the movies’, and there are so many superheroes in real life like the nurses and doctors who helped us.”
The event is taking place at Thamesford Recreation Centre on Sunday May 21st. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and capes will fly at 10:00 a.m.
