TurtleFest returns to Tillsonburg to celebrate the great history of turtles in Tillsonburg with fun and music.
TILLSONBURG - TurtleFest is getting set to take over the Town of Tillsonburg.
The three day festival features live music and a block party. TurtleFest Event Coordinator Suzanne Fleet tells Heart FM how TurtleFest got its name.
"When George T. Tillson our founder was still alive he said he was going to come back as a turtle when he passed to see how his town was doing. So a few years after he passed, the towns folk were down at Coronation Park and found this great big turtle and they were excited because they thought that must be George coming back to check in on his town. Our museum curator Patricia Phelps decided it would be good to do something in his honour and that is how TurtleFest was created."
The party starts on Friday night with the downtown block party and they will have live music happening all weekend long. Fleet says they will also have plenty of fun activities for the kids.
"With the canine water sports, they have been here for the last couple of years, some people know them as the dock diving dogs and that is always a good time. We also have our creative arts festival hosted by the station arts centre."
The three day festival also features an outdoor movie night at the park on Saturday where families can watch the new Power Rangers movie.
