Before you head out to the malls check around Oxford - some of our local small businesses might have exactly what you're looking for!
You don't need to join the throngs of people at malls and big box stores this Christmas season - you might be able to find everything right here in Oxford.
Aside from supporting our local economy, Tourism Specialist Meredith Maywood says it can also help you get into the spirit. "One of the real benefits is it's a pleasant experience going out and shopping in these smaller stores and galleries. You make a day out of it and you get to spend time together while you're doing some of your Christmas shopping and that's really what the holiday's about."
Maywood says there are also plenty of local places to get that Christmas necessity - the tree. "I always get a fresh tree and I think it's a great part of the year. Make sure you water it when you get it home, regularly. And cut some off the base. You've got plenty of options: you can go out and cut your own at Vanderklooster Christmas trees. Or you could visit some of the local shops that sell trees like Bickle's Orchard Park Farms or McCully's Hill Farm."
Tourism Oxford has even put together a list of some of the best places to stop and shop in Oxford this season. "If you visit tourismoxford.ca/Christmas we have a whole section dedicated to boutiques and bakeries," Maywood says. "So in the boutiques section you're going to find a variety of artisans and shops dedicated to artisans. So you can find that perfect ornament, decoration for your home, and gifts to put under the tree as well."
