Environment Canada says we seen significant snowfall in Oxford County this winter.
OXFORD COUNTY - It has been a winter for the ages in Oxford County.
According to Environment Canada there has been 20 centemetres more snow that what is usually expected this time of year. Warning Prepardness Meteorologist, Eric Tomlinson speaks to what is the normal for the area.
"Usually, for the entire winter, we'd expect around 3 to 4 snowstorms with over 10 centimeters of snow, and we've already had that for the Woodstock area."
Tomlinson says there is a station in Tillsonburg that has seen already seen four snow storms with 10 or more centemetres, and it is only the halfway point of the season. Tomlinson says residents in Oxford County should expect the snow to stay.
"The colder air that we have in place is most likely going to last through to the end of the month, so into next week, and we do have some potential snow for the weekend."
He adds a big factor for the amount of snow is the lakes not being frozen, and when the cold air mass comes through it collects the moisture causing heavy snowfall.
