It was a very successful Labour Day long weekend for Woodstock Minor Baseball, with four OBA Championships and two OBA finalists.
WOODSTOCK - It was quite a successful year for Woodstock Minor Baseball at the Ontario Baseball Association tournaments this season.
Over the Labour Day weekend, Woodstock's 9U, 10U, 11U, and 15U teams each won the OBA Provincial Championships, while the 12U and 18U teams came up just short as finalists. The 10U squad won here in Woodstock were tournament hosts.
According to Brian Vanpee, President of the Woodstock Minor Baseball Association, the amount of success the association saw was incredibly rare.
"I have asked around, and in recent years, we could not even think of a year where we have had this much success at provincial championships."
Vanpee wanted to mention how proud he was of all the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes in emphasizing player and coach recruitment and development, and the partnership they have with the City of Woodstock giving them such fantastic facilities. Vanpee also wanted to thank the parents.
"It's a testament to all [the parents] as well, the fact that we were able to bring home so many championships."
In the first year without COVID interfering with baseball, Vanpee and the rest of the Woodstock Minor Baseball Association could not be more pleased with their results, and they are excited to carry this momentum into the future.
