Jerry Acchione has officially retired from the Oxford OPP Auxiliary Unit after dedicating over 13 years to the volunteer police force. He says he wants to focus on his family, his work and Woodstock City Council.
OXFORD COUNTY - A familiar face has officially retired from the Oxford OPP Auxiliary Unit.
Jerry Acchione started with the volunteer police force back in June 2008. He was Unit Commander and Staff Sergeant leading up to his retirement Wednesday night.
"I handed in my uniform, handed in my badge and a whole bunch of them were there to see me off and shake hands with me. It was a very emotional night."
Acchione attended several events with the Oxford OPP Auxiliary Unit over the years. He also worked several RIDE programs and was a Safeguard Ontario Safety Trainer.
He has been a busy guy over the years, and now he wants to slow down a bit.
"Now that the world is coming back together I have made a decision to narrow things down a little bit and concentrate more on City Council, work and family."
Acchione is also working on his getting his pilot's license.
He says it's great to get out there and become involved in your community.
"I suggest everybody to get there and volunteer. If it is with the police departments, our Woodstock Police has a great auxiliary program and the Oxford OPP has a great auxiliary program. So many different business are always looking for volunteers as well. I truly believe that is what makes our community great; the volunteers."
