Norfolk OPP are issuing another warning about the CRA Scam, after multiple residents reported the scheme in the area.
Despite numerous warnings from police and the media, the Canada Revenue Agency Scam is still prevalent in the area.
Norfolk OPP have been receiving reports of fraudsters calling or e-mailing homeowners, pretending to work with the CRA. They will ask you to pay for overdue taxes, and might threaten arrest warrants in order to scare you into paying up.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says we need to put a stop to this crime once and for all.
"We want all of our residents to be extremely vigilant when receiving phone calls or e-mails from someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency or a police service inquiring about personal information and demanding payment on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency. These types of calls are designed to create anxiety and complete shock for the unsuspecting resident resulting in personal and financial information being disclosed."
The real Canada Revenue Agency will never ask for personal information over e-mail, divulge someone's tax information to another person without consent, or leave personal information or threatening messages on an answering machine.
If you think someone is trying to scam you, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by visiting their website or calling 1-888-495-8501.
