Protestors gathers outside last night's board meeting, while trustees discussed a motion to request the province add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of compulsory vaccinations for students. The motion was withdrawn in the end.
LONDON - A large group of protestors gathered outside last night's Thames Valley District School Board meeting, as trustees discussed mandatory vaccinations.
Trustee Corrine Rahman had brought forward a motion, calling on the school board to write a letter to the province to request the vaccine be added to the compulsory vaccination list for students. She decided to withdraw that motion during last night's meeting.
"It is my understanding that the Chief Medical Officer of Health is currently reviewing this issue, and the Ontario Public School Board Association will advocate on behalf of all Boards. Thus, I withdrew the motion."
Rumors had surfaced over social media, suggesting the school board was trying to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for students. Director of Education Mark Fisher says that is not true.
"The board has no authority to mandate student COVID-19 vaccinations and was never part of the agenda."
Last night's meeting was held at the One World Thames Valley International Welcome Center, right next to Louise Arbour Public School. The TVDSB Education Centre was recently closed due to a power outage.
