Applications Open For the Ontario Business Costs Rebate Program

Businesses forced to close or reduce capacity can apply for rebate of 50 to 100 percent of their property tax and energy costs.

A new support for Ontario businesses forced to close or reduce capacity due to pandemic restrictions is now available.

Applications are now open for the Ontario Business Costs Rebate Program.

Companies forced to shut their doors for indoor activities, such as gyms and restaurants, will get a rebate payment for 100 percent of their energy costs and property taxes.

Meanwhile, businesses required to cut capacity to 50 percent, such as small retail stores, can receive half of these costs.

"We recognize that these necessary public health measures are impacting businesses, and as we have been since the beginning of the pandemic, we are there to support them," said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance. "With the opening of applications for this new rebate program, our government is putting money directly into the hands of impacted businesses during this critical time."

Applicants will need to show their energy and property tax bills as part of the process.

A full list of eligible businesses can be found here.

The Ontario government is also providing businesses with a six month interest and penalty-free period to pay off most provincial taxes.

As well, a new COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant of $10,000 is being offered to companies forced to close under current restrictions, and the application portal will open in the coming weeks, with payments beginning next month.
