Woodstock residents have until Friday March 3rd to submit an application for the upcoming Citizen's Police Academy. The 10-week program begins on Thursday March 23rd.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is excited to announce it’s once again opening its doors to the Citizen's Police Academy.
The program is open to Woodstock residents who have an interest in their local police service or who are interested in learning more about community safety. With a mixture of in-class and hands-on learning, participants will engage with the various services and departments within the WPS, explore the challenges police forces face, and get hands-on experience in the policing profession.
Shaylyn Jackson, Community Service Officer for the WPS, explains that class attendees are in for an exciting 10-week program.
"[Participants] will get to see demonstrations from our canine unit, they'll get to go out and do some actual speed radars with the traffic unit. They get to see how our forensic investigation officers work and what types of things they do in some of the major investigations. We are going to have our training unit show them what things officers need to be trained on [in the force]. There's also an opportunity for participants of the program to join in on a ride along."
The Citizens Police Academy will open on Thursday March 23rd. Classes are scheduled every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Application packages must include a resume and WPS application form, which can be found online here. Once filled out you can drop your application off at the police station located at 615 Dundas St. You may also email your application to recruiting@woodstockpolice.ca with the subject line "Citizen's Police Academy Application"
The application deadline is Friday March 3rd.
Shaylyn Jackson visited the Heart FM studio yesterday morning to chat with Dan and Marcie. You can listen to the full interview below:
