Woodstock City Council has approved a revenue fund budget of just over 74-million-dollars for 2018.
WOODSTOCK - Budget season has come to an end in the city of Woodstock.
Council approved a budget of $74,262,444 last night, alongside a levy of $53,947,314.
But Mayor Trevor Birtch says homeowners should have nothing to worry about.
"The tax rate for the city portion of the bill would go up by approximately 1.32 percent. Right now we do not have our tax ratio set at the county of Oxford but we do know that with the budget that was approved at the county of Oxford, the tax portion for the county will be decreasing as well as the educational component. Once those ratios are set, what many homeowners might find is that if they receive an increase on their tax bill it will be negligible and for some individuals it may even go down."
Council made a few additions to the budget last night as well.
They have set the Woodstock Police Service budget at $14,062,252. They've also decided to transfer $500,000 into a new reserve in order to fund a Southside Pond clean out and the construction of a new sediment forebay.
Birtch says they're also setting aside $50,000 for physician recruitment.
"Council has dedicated and made the decision to put funds towards a recruitment specialist so that we would have somebody who can take care of this new initiative."
Whoever is hired will try to attract more family doctors to the Friendly City, in order to accommodate the growing population. They will also replace some of the current doctors who plan to retire in the coming years.
