Woodstock City Council has shut down a request by ARPA to place 10 000 anti-abortion flags in Museum Square
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council shut down a request from the Association for Reformed Political Action for an anti-abortion protest in Museum Square. The demonstration request submitted by Peter Bos from Springford intended to place 10 000 irrigation flags on the lawn in Museum Square to represent the number of abortions occurring in Canada. A similar demonstration had been held on Parliament Hill back in October 2014. In that protest 100 000 flags were placed in front of the Parliament building. ARPA is currently in a fight to have abortion statistics released.
The majority of Woodstock City Council voted against allowing the demonstration to go forward. The lone hold out was Councillor Jerry Acchione who voted in favour of allowing the demonstration.
"Well I think everybody has a choice - but that's just it, do I believe in abortion? No, on a personal level. So that's why I voted against it."
