Arrest ALS For Gertzy Fundraiser

Members of the public are invited to help a former Woodstock Police Officer in his fight against ALS.

OXFORD COUNTY - Members of the public are invited to help a former Woodstock Police Officer in his fight against ALS.

Jason Geerts was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease this past June, after he started experiencing troubles with his speech and his right leg.

Christy Smith describes her brother as a very selfless person.

"He is a genuine, kind hearted family guy who doesn't want to miss a beat. He's always the life of the party and he is an advocate for protecting the community as well."

The Arrest ALS for Gertzy fundraiser will take place at the Dorchester Fairgrounds on Saturday September 30th. It will be a family friendly event complete with a live entertainment, a kid's zone and food for purchase. Those who attend will also be able to check out Police, Fire and Navy demonstrations.

Smith says fundraiser will help her brother receive treatment.

"There is no cure for ALS yet so a lot of his treatments have taken him abroad as well as travelling far within Ontario so the money will be used for him so he can put it towards the travel."

The fun will get underway at 2pm and end at 1am the next day.

If you would like to donate to the cause but you can't make it to the event, you can donate funds to the account of Arrest ALS for Gertzy at TD Bank.
