Patrick Brown announced as PC Ontario Party Leader.
ONTARIO - Barrie Member of Parliament Patrick Brown has been named the Ontario Progressive Conservative opposition party leader after defeating wife of former federal finance minister Jim Flaherty, Christine Elliott. Elliott declared the decision 'unanimous' and congratulated Brown on the win.
Brown had this to say in his acceptance speech.
"Thank you and good morning, this is a great day for the PC party of Ontario."
"We have completed a rigorous leadership campaign...this has a been a long test, I could not have asked for a better opponent than Christine Elliott."
"She fought a strong and tireless campaign, she brought thousands and thousands of new members into the campaign and our party is stronger for that."
"She pushed me hard, tested me and I am better for it."
Brown also thanked ex-PC leadership hopeful Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton for his support. McNaughton threw his support behind Brown after withdrawing from the race.
According to Brown the PC party now has 76,000 members.
