Oxford County Council presented Mary Ann Doré with the 2022 Oxford Stewardship Award Wednesday night.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is honouring the latest recipient of the Oxford Stewardship Award.
The Stewardship Award was established in 2009 and continues to support landowners who are working on bettering the environment.
Mary Ann Doré from Blandford-Blenheim was chosen to receive the 2022 Award. She and her family participated in multiple projects to support the Clean Water Program in Oxford County. Specifically, they completed five tree-planting projects and installed three water basins on their property to control hill erosion in wetlands. Doré is a seventh-generation farmer who moved to Oxford County in 2010.
Warden Marcus Ryan says the award is to help recognize the unseen environmental heroes in the county.
"[Recipients] do need to be nominated. They are generally chosen from people who received support from the Clean Water Program during the previous year. The County along with other agencies fund the Clean Water Program, and people apply for the funds and spend them on their property. They do things like windbreaks, tree planting and create or preserve wetlands on their property."
As the 2022 winner, Doré has been added to the recognition wall at the Oxford County Administration Building, designed to honour all past, and future, recipients of the Oxford Stewardship Award.
She will also receive a $500 gift certificate towards original artwork by Ingersoll artist Vonnie Snyder and a gift basket from Jarful Refillery in Woodstock.
