Boat Launches at Ontario Parks Can Open, While Private Marinas Must Remain Closed

Marina owners are not happy, as Ontario Parks are allowed to operate boat launches, while private businesses are still forced to stay closed.

Boat launches at Ontario Parks are allowed to operate, however private Marinas are not.

Owner of Old Cut Boat Livery in Long Point Ray Ferris says the order in council signed April 6 still applies, so Marinas remain closed and as a result their boat launches remain closed.

"What is disturbing and we just became of aware of this, is that Ontario Parks are allowing boat launches within the Provincial Parks to open. This is obviously unfair, it is hypocritical in my opinion. If the Governments intention is a stay-at-home order then opening boat launches in the Provincial Parks defies that Stay-At-Home order."

Ferris says he has not gotten any indication from the Province about boat launches opening anytime soon.

"This hypocrisy with allowing the Provinces boat launches to be open was so concerning to me that I contacted the local MPP, I contacted the Minister of Environment Conservation and Parks the honourable Jeff Yurek and I also contacted the Premiers office, but I have yet to receive a reply from any of them."

Ferris says the whole thing is very frustrating.

"I am frustrated that we have a stay at home order which has caused the closure of marinas and boat launches and that individuals and families cannot go boating or fishing from a private business, but they are allowed to go boating and fishing from a Provincial boat launch."

Ferris has previously called on boaters and anglers to write a letter to your MPP and the Premier, asking for all boat launches to reopen.
