UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory Ends

SWPH says water sample results showed the presence of bacteria in the Hickson water system.

UPDATE: Southwestern Public Health has called off the boil water advisory for the Hickson water system.

It has conducted two tests recently, and the results have confirmed that the water is now safe to use. However, public health officials recommend running your taps for five minutes to flush them out.

HICKSON - A boil water advisory has been issued for the Hickson Water System.

Dr. Ninh Tran, the Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health, says test results have shown a presence of bacteria in the water. This means people in Hickson should bring their water to a boil for a least one minute before consuming it in any way whether it's drinking, brushing their teeth, making ice, or washing produce.

The advisory was issued yesterday and SWPH is working with Oxford County to make sure all of the affected residents are notified.
