Bottle Filling Stations

A Woodstock committee wants to see more money set aside to install water bottle refilling stations at city owner facilities.

Woodstock's Environmental Advisory Committee wants more water bottle refill stations to be installed in the city's recreation centres, such as the three at the Woodstock Community Complex. 

The committee submitted a report presented at a city council meeting Thursday which asks for more refilling stations to be considered in the 2015 capital budget.

The stations are similar to typical water fountains except the water pours downwards out of a spout, making it easier to refill a bottle.

The bottle refilling stations aren't just conveinient they are also environmentally friendly, helping to divert plastic bottles from the landfill.

"We have a counter on them so we know how often they are used. I believe at last count it was 80,000 uses in a year," said Brian Connors, the city's director of Parks and Recreation.

The next facility sceduled to have bottle filling stations installed this year is Southside Park at a cost of about $1,000 a piece.
