Para Ice Hockey legend Brad Bowden explains why he would rather lose the silver medal, than win the bronze.
BEIJING - Garrett Riley and the rest of Team Canada will will be bringing a silver medal home to Oxford County.
The Canadian men's para ice hockey team fell to the U.S. in the gold medal match over the weekend with a final score of 5-0. It was the second time the Canucks fell to the Americans 5-0 at the tournament.
Oxford's Garrett Riley finished the games with one goal and one assist in four games.
Heart FM has been able to speak with Para Ice Hockey legend Brad Bowden during these games to get his unique insights and perspectives. Bowden has won two gold medals, a silver and a bronze in his Paralympic career and is the only athlete to win gold in both Para Ice hockey and wheel chair basketball.
In the final interview with Brad, we talk about the following:
- Bowden's analysis on the gold medal game and why Canada came up short.
- Why Bowden would rather lose the silver so to speak, rather than win a bronze.
- The current talent gap between Canada and the United States and what Canada needs to do to reclaim top dog status in Para Ice Hockey.
- How Canada can do a better job of developing young players to help them claim gold in 2026.
