Brampton Mayor Calling on Ontario to Lift Mask Mandates for Students

Quebec and Alberta have lifted mask mandates for students and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown thinks Ontario should follow suit.

BRAMPTON - Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is calling on the Ontario Government to lift the mask mandate at Ontario Schools.

Brown says the Province should follow Quebec's lead. In Quebec, students will no longer be required to wear masks when they are in class learning. Students will still need to wear masks in the common areas of the school and on busses. This will take effect on March 7th.

Alberta meanwhile has already lifted the mask mandate for schools and exempted children under the age of 13 from its mask policy in all other settings.

Brown says he looks at his own son Theodore, who is two and half years old and required to wear a mask most of his lfie.  a two and half year old son, says it's time to let kids be kids.

"He goes to soccer lessons where he's required to wear a mask, and trying to get a toddler to wear a mask is impossible and unreasonable."

Brown says he is encouraged by the direction of Quebec Public Health and wants to see Ontario follow suit.

Right now, students in Grade 1 to Grade 12 in Ontario are required to wear masks at school all day, except when eating lunch in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
