Rick Buck Jr. share his experience winning a silver medal at the 2019 SONA Special Olympics Golf Championship in Nashville last week.
TILLSONBURG - A local golfer from Tillsonburg has captured a silver medal at the 2019 SONA Special Olympics Golf Championship in Nashville Tennessee.
Rick Buck Junior shot a 125 over 3 rounds, his lowest score was a 41 over 9 holes. He says his driver was really working for him last week.
"My driving, I hit a couple of long bombs down the fairway, it was my driving that was the best last week, I hit a couple of nice iron shots, just trying to keep it in the fairway as much as I could."
Buck says it was a great course to play on, very challenging and also interesting.
"Had a practice round on the Sunday, which we played 18 in the practice round, it was a great time in the practice round. The course we played was called Hermitage, they have hosted some LPGA competitions in the past. What is really cool about this course, is they actually have Scottish Sheep that walk around the course, they have about 50 of them. So in the mix of playing, you got sheep going around."
This is the second silver medal in 2019 for Buck Junior, who also came second at the World Championships in Dubai, earlier this Spring.
Following the tournament, Buck Jr. says he's going to use this win to achieve his ultimate goal.
"My goal in the future is I still want to be a professional golfer in my life."
Buck Jr., is originally from Norwich and now resides in Tillsonburg, has Touch of Cerebral Palsy, along with a learning disability and he's been playing golf in the Special Olympics for the last six years.
