The draft budget for 2026 includes a $6.3 million levy.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council is about to have it's first look at the budget for 2026.
A draft budget of with a general levy of $96.3 million will be presented to council during tomorrow's meeting. It also includes an operating budget of $227.8 million, a capital plan of $127.9 million, and $61,266 for court security and prisoner transport, which would be paid to the City of Woodstock.
The draft budget also includes a $6.3 million levy, which is a 9.5 percent increase.
If the budget is approved as is, residents would see a 5.1 percent increase on the county's portion of their property tax bill, which works out to $75 for the year. It's slightly lower in Woodstock with just a 5 percent increase, which would work out to $66 for the year.
Municipal property taxes would fund 23.4 percent of the budget.
Presenting the draft budget is only the first step in the budget process. Another special meeting has been scheduled for November 24th and the final budget is scheduled for approval on December 10th.
