Youth United is helping to get projects off the ground in the community.
WOODSTOCK - United Way Oxford is helping kids in the community through their youth committee, Youth United.
The program aims at helping others in the community with various projects, providing opportunities for kids ages 12 to 24 years-old.
Mike Crabbe of United Way Oxford says he's happy to see the committee share the same vision and values.
"They really help support the vision of United Way, which is finding opportunities in the community to support people in poverty, to support mental health and counselling, as well as addiction counselling. And as well as giving kids the opportunity to be all they can be and give them a place to skill build and be able to get out of the house and find some places to go to be a part of a community and feel some belonging."
Youth United helps others get their projects off the ground in the community.
Amelia Davis is a grade 11 student at WCI and she is among the committee members.
"The councillor kind of helps gives a voice in the community, so we'll assist them in projects the youth will run and sometimes they do need some a financial aid, so that's where we have some grants come into it. And the programs that the youth will run will tie in to the vision that United Way has."
If you have an upcoming project you'd like help with, you can contact United Way Oxford either by phone at 519-539-3851, via email at mike@unitedwayoxford.ca or you can find them on Facebook at United Way Oxford's Youth United. Applications for financial support are being accepted in February.
