CAMI Ramping Up

Fresh off it's 25th Anniversary, G-M CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll is bringing more employees back on the job.

G-M CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll is in the midst at bringing back some of it's remaining laid-off workforce.

Mike Van Boekle, Plant Chair with Unifor Local 88 says due to the CAMI's strong sales volume, the plant needs to bring back some of its layoffs to help meet sales forecasts.

"So they are looking at different ways to increase efficiencies in the plant, and they want to get an extra 30-to-40 thousand more vehicles out again. So they want to make some engineering changes and boost production up which will force some more full time hirings."

Van Boekle says call-backs have already started with the first group set to begin next week, a number he says is around 25 people.

He says roughly 70 remain on the sidelines, but he believes the up-tick in production will see that number back working in the plant by the end of the summer.
