Campaign Begins to Move Ingersoll Sports Hall of Fame

Ingersoll's Sports Hall of Fame has a vision for the future. Today, new renderings were shown of the Sports Hall with plans for its relocation from the Ingersoll Museum to the upstairs of the Arena. Economic Development Director Bill Mates tells Heart FM about the vision. "The upstairs of the arena will be transformed into the Sports Hall of Fame. Along one wall it will have interactive, and pictures and all different kinds of memorabilia that will showcase the last couple-hundred years in Ingersoll and all of the amazing people that have been involved." A 75-thousand dollar campaign to make the vision a reality got a jump start today. That includes $5000 from the Movie Premier fundraiser for the "Harold and Lorna Miss Canada IV" (Cheque shown upper right). Harold Wilson says that event was a huge success, thanks to the town. "Ingersoll did it up proud. It was just a spectacular night. I think we are very, very pleased that $5000 was raised in support of the Sports Hall." That event was supported financially by IMT. The Rotary Club of Ingersoll and Counsel Portfolio Financial Services each added $1000 to bring the total to $7000. (Rotary Cheque - Photo right) There's still 68-thousand to go, and the campaign will be going out across the town in the coming weeks and months. That includes a Sports Hall induction ceremony and auction on April 6th at the arena. Ken Vyse, Chair of the Sports Hall of Fame, says it will be a facility the whole community will be proud of. "We're going to end up with a state of the art facility where we can properly showcase the athletes from Ingersoll, and to also make the auditorium a multi-purpose facility where people will be glad to hold events." Below are some renderings of what the future Ingersoll Sports Hall of Fame will look like, courtesy of Holman, out of Toronto.
