Oxford OPP have issued a warning to the public about another scam making the rounds in the area. Police were called on Tuesday after a citizen got a call from someone claiming to be an agent with the Canada Revenue Agency. The suspect told the resident that there was a warrant for his arrest and he needed to pay his taxes immediately. He was told that he needed to buy prepaid VISA cards in order to pay back the debt and call with the numbers for the credit cards once they were purchased in order to pay the bill. Police say the man almost fell for the scam and actually bought the prepaid Visa cards. Eventually he became suspicious and called police who informed him this was indeed a scam. Oxford Police want to remind residents to never give out any money over the phone and that the CRA will never call you on a matter like this and ask you to purchase a prepaid Visa card. If you ever get a call from someone you don't know asking for money the best thing to do is hang up immediately.
