Unionized workers at CP Railway and CPKC are back to work today.
GTA/CANADA - Canada's freight trains are back on the rails today.
The Canada Labour Relations Board had ordered Canadian National (CN) Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) to end the work stoppage on Saturday, sending unionized workers back to work today. It also ordered the contract dispute to be settled through binding arbitration.
The Teamsters union is planning to appeal this ruling in court and protest outside the federal cabinet retreat in Halifax today.
All of this was started by a lockout by CN Railway, and CPKC on Thursday, which impacted More than 9,000 workers. The Moody's credit-rating agency says the work stoppage may have cost the Canadian economy $341 million each day.
Select commuter lines across the country were also impacted by this. GO Transit halted service on its Milton line and closed the Hamilton GO station, which affected more than 8,000 commuters. Metrolinx, the agency that owns GO Transit, says the service will resume on the Milton line and the Hamilton GO station today.
