OPAL Alliance will host an all-candidates meeting to be held at the Colombo Club of Oxford in Beachville,
BEACHVILLE -- The group, Oxford People Against the Landfill have announced they'll be hosting an all-candidates meeting focused on the Walker Landfill Proposal.
OPAL Chair Steve McSwiggan says it's very important that the public understand from each candidate what their plan is going forward if elected.
"What will the candidates plan to do at Queen's Park?", said McSwiggan Tuesday. "How will they interact with the ministries to help voice the concerns of all the interested parties fighting against the proposed landfill?"
While some all-candidates debates in Oxford have included questions about what each candidate will do about the proposed Walker Landfill, there hasn't been a meeting devoted to the entire issue until now.
McSwiggan says next Monday's meeting is necessary, even if OPAL is already aware of how all six confirmed candidates feel about the landfill.
"What OPAL, and I think the community really wants to hear is how are we going to get there, what specific plans and what things do they have in their tool kit that they can take to Queen's Park and challenge the Ministry of Environment?"
"I just hope to see a very large audience out on June 9th. I think it's going to be very informative and I think people are going to walk away with how they feel the candidates stand on this issue alone."
McSwiggan says voters need to know more than whether or not a candidate is simply "for or against" the dump proposal.
In addition to questions being posed by OPAL, those in attendance will also be able to ask candidates their own questions related to the landfill proposal.
The all-candidates meeting goes next Monday, June 9th at 7pm at the Colombo Club of Oxford in Beachville.
