According to OPP's website, they say the new Cannabis Act Regulations will allow for the legal production and sale of edibles/beverages, extracts and topicals.
OPP say while these products are legalized, it'll be some time before they're seen in stores.
The exact products are not clear at this time, however there will be strict rules around THC content, production , packaging and labeling.
The THC limit for edible cannabis products will be 10 milligrams per packages, including drinks, and it can't be combined with alcohol or nicotine.
Labelling guidelines require the product must specify the THC and CBD content and any other information. This information would include a health warning message and the product shouldn't make any health, dietary or cosmetic claims.
Also, the packaging should be plain and child resistant.
Community Service Officer for the Woodstock Police, Shaylyn Jackson says parents should educate themselves on the cannabis products since they've become legal to purchase so they can also speak with their children.
Under the Regulations Act, Health Canada says among the most important guidelines is the products should not appeal to young people.
OPP's website also states through another lottery, the province will receive another 50 stores starting later this year, including eight within the First Nations. And a licence must obtained from Health Canada for those who wish to produce or sell legal cannabis products.
OPP say the earliest they could become available for purchase in an Ontario Cannabis Store or private retailer under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is by mid-December.
