Woodstock is very much a "unilingual" community. New stats released from the 2011 Census today, shows 90.3% of Woodstock residents identified English as their mother tongue. The second most identified language was French, at 1.4%. The 5 other most spoken languages in Woodstock were: Dutch (1.4%); Polish (1.3%); Portuguese (0.8%); German (0.7%); and Italian (0.5%). That list hasn't really changed from the last census, 5-years-ago. However, there's a multi-lingual shift taking place in other Canadian cities. Toronto and Vancouver have almost a 50% rate of languages other than English being the first language.
