The Woodstock Fire Department is encouraging homeowners to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when they set their clocks ahead one hour tonight.
With the clocks springing ahead this weekend the Woodstock Fire Department is encouraging homeowners to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
It's a great opportunity to change the batteries to make sure they work in case of an emergency.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says you should also check their expiry dates, adding smoke alarms only have a 10 year life span.
"It doesn't matter if they're hard wired or battery operated. They all have to be replaced after 10 years, that way we know they are working in optimal condition."
Woods says your smoke alarms should be on every level of the home and outside of the sleeping areas.
"Most fires do happen between midnight and 6am, that's why it has to be loud and it had to be outside the sleeping area."
Your carbon monoxide detectors also have to be outside of the bedrooms.
Daylight savings time will kick in at 2am on Sunday March 11th.
