Changes Coming to Ontario High Schools

Grade 9 and 10 students will now have to take at least one technological education course

ONTARIO - Ontario's Education minister Stephen Lecce announced today that high school students will soon have to take a mandtory technological education course in order to graduate.

Lecce said the new education plan is expected pave the path between young workers and skilled trades.

Starting September 2024, Grade 9 and 10 students will now have to take at least one course that will cover sectors such as construction, computer tech, manufacturing and communication.

The government also announced earlier this week that it would allow Grade 11 students to start earning credits toward their diploma while apprenticing in a skilled trade.
