Christine Elliott stopped by South Gate Centre, while travelling along the P-C leadership campaign trail.
WOODSTOCK - South Gate Centre was a packed place as local Conservatives jumped at the chance to meet Christine Elliott.
She talked about her plans for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party on Friday.
Elliott has familiarized herself with some of the issues impacting Oxford.
"The dump issue is a big issue and I know Ernie Hardeman has a private members bill at the legislature right now to say that municipalities have to be willing hosts to have dumps located. I've also heard about the high speed train issue. Several farmers have told me they're concerned about having their farm lands cut up if the proper assessment isn't done taking into consideration all of those factors."
If she becomes party leader and Premier in the June election, Elliott says she would like to bring a sensible government back to Ontario. She wants to implement a new energy policy, lower taxes and create a health care system everyone can rely on.
But first she has to beat Doug Ford, Caroline Mulroney and Tanya Granic Allen in the fight for the top spot. The voting deadline has been extended to Friday March 9th and the results will be announced on Saturday March 10th
The PC Party has been making quite the headlines lately with the scandal surrounding former leader Patrick Brown.
Elliott says her party is ready to move past it.
"We are trying to deal with the issues that have been presented but I think that the problems are not as big as have been stated. We have a strong, firm foundation and we are ready to move forward and convince people we are the party to form government after June 7th."
