Woodstock is set to take out loans tonight to pay for two stimulus projects. The final bills are in for the Art Gallery and Cowan Park projects that were split between the federal, provincial and local governments. In the case of the Art Gallery project, Woodstock ends up paying 450-thousand dollars after several grants help pay down the 5-million dollar project cost. For the Cowan Park project, after committing 1.035-million, the city is on the hook for another 115-thousand dollars. Those costs wouldn't be picked up by the Build Canada Fund because they weren't classified as construction costs. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski says "Build Canada took a look at some of the invoices we submitted for the project. They didn't think they fell into the construction definition. And so they said they won't cover those...there was an extra 115-thousand dollars." That included many items for the Banquet Hall including tables and chairs, tablecloths, carts and dollies, kitchen appliances and even hot dog grillers. The Woodstock Soccer Club has committed to contributing 1.3-million dollars towards debt repayment over 20-years. The Friends of the Woodstock Art Gallery had also committed to fundraising to help offset the cost of the new Gallery.
