Council will be talking about regional transit solutions at council this week.
WOODSTOCK - Transit issues will be addressed at city council this week.
Improving intercity and regional transportation are the main focuses.
Mayor of Woodstock Trevor Birtch says council is well aware of some of the problems the city is facing, and they are working to find solutions. "At one of our previous meetings for budget consideration, Councillor Lauder asked staff to provide us with a scenario where the transit plan that had already been adopted by council was accelerated. So we would do what we originally planned to do in two years, we'd try to do in one year - for next year. So we'll try and see what the financial implication is for that."
Mayor Trevor Birtch says they have been looking closely at some of the work being done in London in terms of regional transit. Particularly their resolution put to the Province. "They urge the province to continue on regional transit initiatives and to speak with the municipalities to find the solutions that will best fit our needs here locally. So these would be transit options that let people get from Woodstock to Ingersoll, or Woodstock to London."
Mayor Trevor Birtch says they fully understand just how badly regional transit is needed. "There's a lot of agency appointments and medical appointments that people have and for those that are able to get around on their own but don't have a personal vehicle it's much more affordable to provide a transit solution over having agencies driving around with specialized buses and ambulances."
Thursday night council will look to see what best fits the needs for Woodstonians.
