City Council Talks EV Charging Stations

The City of Woodstock is applying for grant funding to install six new Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has had their first meeting of 2024.

Mayor Jerry Acchione says Electric Vehicle Charging Stations were one of the topics on the agenda last Thursday.

"We've got applications ready to go out for six of the charging stations, that was a provincial grant. Now, a federal grant came out, and that was talked about for the first time at the meeting."

Acchione explains what the plan would look like moving forward.

"Hopefully, we can put these in the community at different strategic locations, that they will be used and end up not costing the city anything."

Staff is also going to be looking at the potential for more funding, as well as for a third-party operator to take over ownership and maintenance of the charging stations.

If the charging stations are to be installed they would be open to the public 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
