The land at 401 Lakeview will be staying as it is. City Council voted down the plan for a new subdivision.
WOODSTOCK - A new subdivision will not be coming to the north end of Woodstock.
There was a development plan to rezone 401 Lakeview Drive for over 250 new housing units. It would have been 68 townhouse units, 26 semi-detached homes and two seven-story apartment buildings. Mayor, Jerry Acchione speaks to what happened at the meeting.
"It did come to the Council meeting on Thursday, and Council did vote to turn it down. The most common reason I would have to say is the overdevelopment of the site."
Acchione says it was a tough decision, and they have to consider established neighbourhoods when it comes to intensification. He says the next steps for the planner would be to submit an official plan change request to the County.
"If County Council approves the application, that would open up the door for a tribunal."
Acchione adds the request will be presented during the last meeting in March. If the request is passed by the County Council, the applicant could then challenge the City's decision. If the tribunal accepts the request, the development would go ahead.
