The city wants to "eliminate surprises" that may be in the Old Reg Hall Building. After being vacant since 2004, the shape of the building needs to be reinvestigated after council took possession of the property last week. Woodstock Council last night approved $150,000 of start-up money to evaluate the structure and make repairs. Mayor Pat Sobeski says there's a wide range of things that could happen with the building in the future. "What are we going to do with the building? Obviously a lot of people have said 'Will a College come to the downtown?', well again, the College will have to know the structure of the building. And if the building is deemed as not structurally safe, we might have some group come along and pay the city $50,000, demolish the property at their own expense and say 'This is what we'll build in its place.'." Sobeski adds that the buildings' fate could be know in as soon as the end of the summer.
