City council has approved a reorganization of Woodstock's Community Services Department. It splits the former department into two new departments. One will be called the "Cultural Department", controlling the Museum, Art Gallery and Management of the Market Theatre. Woodstock Museum Curator Karen Houston has been promoted to head up this new department. Woodstock Mayor Pat Sobeski tells Heart FM "There's always been talk of a cultural precinct in the city. And with the Art Gallery and Museum and Market Centre building being together, it was thought it was wise to put them in a stand-alone group that can be supportive of each other." The other branch will be the "Parks and Recreation Department", where a new director will be hired. That person will oversee the parks, trails, arenas and aquatic facilities. Also of note, Brad Janssen is getting a new title as Manager of Corporate Communications, where he'll become part of the senior management team at City Hall. The changes are expected to cost the city an extra 15-25-thousand dollars. Sobeski says the changes were approved by council in a closed-door meeting last week.
