In case of the education workers strike on Monday, a day camp will be running throughout the week at the Community Complex. It is for children ages 4 to 12 years old and will run from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
WOODSTOCK - Should the education workers go on strike on Monday, the City of Woodstock has a day camp setup for those children who will be out of school.
It'll be held in the Community Complex on Finkle St.
Supervisor of Recreation Programs and Sponsorship, Jason Jolicoeur says the idea was put together this past weekend.
"The kids will spend the day doing active games, doing crafts, playing at the park, we will go swimming on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We'll be planning trips to the library so we'll be keeping them rather busy, similar to our summer camp program."
He says they'll have nine staff members and two to three volunteers on hand to help with the camp. The program is organized by Jolicoeur and the City's Parks and Recreation Department.
Jolicoeur adds it's a place where the children can stay active should they be out of the classroom.
"We are hoping for a swift return to school for them, but at least they have a safe place and a fun place to be throughout the week. So we're just hoping they have a good time."
The education workers of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have been in talks with the provincial government over the weekend to reach a deal, but if a deal is not met by Monday, they will go on an official strike and the schools across the region will be closed.
Jolicoeur says the camp is for children ages 4 to 12 years old and parents can register online or they can call the Southside Aquatic Centre at 519-421-7665.
The program will run all of this week, if needed, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
