Homestead Christian Care will be on their own at their Ontario Municipal Board hearing. City Council voted against sending the City Solicitor to the appeal hearing in October against the rezoning of the building in order to create an 80 unit apartment building. CAO David Creery believes Homestead has the pieces in place to defend their case for the zone change. "We've spoken with Homestead Christian Care, and they did not believe that there was a need for the City Solicitor to attend. They've also retained professional planning expertise, who will be at the hearing...it's being well represented." Creery, in fact believes sending someone to defend the case would be redundant to the case being presented by Homestead. "It was felt that the City Solicitor would have no role at all, whatsoever in the hearing, which means he would be spending the day or more sitting and listening to the debate unfold by others." On the other hand, Councillor Sandra Talbot was adamant she did not feel comfortable not having a representative from the City at the hearing, but was overruled 5 -2 by her peers. Ron Fraser was the only other councillor to support sending someone to support their case.
