City Retires Oldest Transit Bus

The wheels on the oldest Woodstock Transit Bus have stopped going round and round. City Engineer Harold de Haan says the 1976 GMC bus has been replaced. "We need a new bus because we had to retire one of the other buses; it was becoming too costly to do the upkeep on it anymore so we took the out of service in December of last year". de Haan says it was one of the last on the road. "We currently have one still the old classic GM bus on the road. This is the second one that was taken off, it's basically just kind of being saved for parts". A 2013 NOVA transit bus is the replacement and cost the city $460,000 which was taken from Gas Tax funds. City Mayor Pat Sobeski says drivers will be sad to see the classic bus go. "I know talking to the drivers they will miss this bus because it's a heavier bus. It handles the winter; it's a plow, where the newer buses they're aluminum fibreglass and they're light. So, the drivers do like the old bus from that point of view".
