The Woodstock Coldest Night of the Year event has already raised over $24,000 for Operation Sharing.
WOODSTOCK - One of the biggest fundraisers in Woodstock will be making a comeback in 2024.
Registration is now open for the Coldest Night of the Year Walk on Saturday February 24th. Organizer Scott McKague says all of the money raised will support Operation Sharing.
"So Operation Sharing actually runs quite a few programs. The Inn is definitely the biggest one where funds need to be allocated, but they have just recently opened a shelter in Tillsonburg as well so some of these funds are going to be spread out."
The walk will leave College Ave Secondary School at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday February 24th and everything should wrap up by 7:00 p.m. that evening.
McKauge says it's never too early to start collecting donations.
"The goal is $150 per person and if you can fundraise that much you get a toque. Obviously some people go above and beyond that and some people can't, but that's great too because we want to have them out too. We meet on February 24th and we all walk a 2-kilometre or 5-kilometre route together, get some free snacks, have some good conversations, and just feel good."
The Woodstock event had already raised $24,630 as of this morning, making it the sixth-ranked in the country right now.
You can find more information and register for the Woodstock event online here. Walks will also be taking place in Ingersoll and Tillsonburg, with all of the funds going to United Way Oxford.
Scott McKague stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Monday December 18th. You can listen to the full interview below:
