CO Awareness Hits Oxford County

Awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning hit the airwaves of Heart FM this morning as John Gignac continues his education.

OXFORD COUNTY - CO awareness is once again at the forefront.

Founder of the Gignac-Hawkins Foundation, John Gignac, has been a strong advocate for CO awareness after his niece Laurie Hawkins and her family passed away from carbon monoxide poisoning. He was on the Heart FM Morning Show today, and had this message.

"And in the summertime, we like to remind people, take a battery-operated CO alarm with you if you're going camping, boating, cottage, whatever, RVing, so that you have that CO protection. Remember, carbon monoxide does never takes a vacation."

Gignac says it is easy to make sure your home is protected.

"Protect yourself, just get a- I like those combo alarms where you have smoke and CO alarms, and you put them on every floor of the home."

He adds it is now the law to make sure a working CO alarm is on every level of your home, as well as in an attached garage or where a fuel-burning appliance is located.
