Coldest Night of the Year Inching Towards 2023 Fundraising Goal

Submitted photo

Woodstock's Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser has raised over $17,500 for Operation Sharing so far and it's hoping to reach $200,000 before the big event on February 25th.

WOODSTOCK - The Coldest Night of the Year fundraising goal is far is still far away.

Donations have been coming in since early December and they have only reached 8 percent of the $200,000 they're looking to raise for Operation Sharing this year. Woodstock raised $211,000 last year.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a moment each year when tens of thousands of Canadians step outside the warmth and comfort of home to shine a light of welcome and compassion in their communities. The Coldest Night of the Year has raised over $56,000,000 in 166 communities across Canada since it began in 2011.

Event Organizer Scott McKague says Woodstock made his job easy last year.

"Thanks doesn't seem to cut it. In this event, nationally, there are a lot of groups that participate obviously and Woodstock is almost a folk legend right now, and that's not a joke. Everyone knows who we are and we're making huge differences."

Woodstock raised the fourth-most money nationwide, competing against cities that have been taking part in this event for 13 years and have much larger populations.

The walk will take place on Saturday, February 25th, and it will start at 5:00 p.m. All of the proceeds raised locally will be going to Operation Sharing and you can find more information online here.
